Learning About and Creating Traffic Lights

At Enoch Cobb Early Learning Center they learned about the inventor of the traffic light, Garrett Morgan. Morgan was born in 1877 and lived until 1963. He invented the three-position traffic light and patented it in 1923. It allowed drivers to know that green meant to go, red meant to stop, and yellow meant to be cautious as the light would soon be red for them. After learning about Garrett Morgan the kids made their own traffic lights too!

Making traffic lights
The students created their own traffic lights by looking to the original patent and then following the directions. They made a red, yellow, and green light out of construction paper and put it on some black or white construction paper!
