Learning about the Letter W
In my classroom my students learn about the alphabet, but they also learn words that begin with the letter. We focus on the sound of the letter, and where it falls in the alphabet as well. Once we learn new words that begin with that letter, we then come up with ideas together on what we would like to craft and make in class. I allow them to explore and get messy. But, but I also make sure that all crafting revolves around the main focus or theme of the week. However, with each letter we make sure that we learn how to properly trace the letter, upper and lower so that when they learn to write the letter on their own, they are able to start and end properly.
This week my students learned about the letter W. They learned how to trace it. They also learned some new words that began with the letter W. They also created crafts that began with the letter W, such as a watermelon. My students are focusing on learning the sound of the letter W, and where it falls in the alphabet.
