Life Cycle of a Butterfly

This is an activity about the life cycle of a butterfly, shown using nature objects and placed in order on a piece of paper.

I asked my students to prepare a piece of penne, fusilli, conchiglie and a farfalle uncooked pasta. I also asked them to get 2 pieces of leaves from the garden and a small twig. In the learning kit, I have provided pieces of foam balls. They have the choice to use these or get pieces of uncooked rice grains from the pantry.

I've read The Very Hungry Caterpillar to also integrate the Days of the Week and counting into the lesson. After these, I've presented slides with photos of each stage of the life cycle of a butterfly. From all the natural objects in front of them, I let them associate the objects with each stage.

Which of these objects looked like the first stage: eggs?

All of them answered the rice grains or the foam balls. I asked them to glue these on top of a leaf and glue on the paper.

Next stage, caterpillar. Among the pasta pieces, which one looked more like a caterpillar? They have the option to choose a penne or a fusilli. Then a cocoon -- a conchiglie. Lastly, the butterfly with a farfalle pasta.
