Outdoor co-ordinates
This was a really fun outdoor lesson! It was our very first time learning about co-ordinates and we decided it would be more fun and exciting to take our learning outside.
We drew up a lifesize grid on the ground with co-ordinates labels on the x and y axis. Firstly, I gave each child a co-ordinate they they needed to make their way to. It was great as they were able to really see how they starter from the bottom and then moved up. Next they got into pairs and gave their partner a co-ordinate to make their way to. This allowed them to practise verbally saying the co-ordinates and making sure they used the bottom number first. Lastly, I placed objects on different co-ordinates. Before lining up to go back inside, each child had to give me the co-ordinates of an object and then go and retrieve it.
This was a fabulous lesson and a great opportunity for outdoor learning.
