Paper Compass Creation Craft

At Indian Creek School, the first graders spent a week exploring the wonderful world of geography! They learned about landforms, bodies of water, and maps. The children also were excited to practice their orienteering skills by making their own compasses to navigate their way around the school. Everyone learned about North, South, East, and West.

Beautiful paper compasses

The kids loved learning about compasses and making their own paper ones, even if they weren't functional as real compasses are. The children were educated about how the sun rises in the East and sets in the West. They also were told how real-life compasses always point to magnetic North--handy for if they ever get lost somewhere! Learning about geography and how compasses are used was a fun educational activity, and creating colorful paper compasses was a stellar art-focused craft as well!
