Planting Flower Bulbs and Learning About Flowers

They planted flower bulbs at Thompson Valley Preschool, Inc. They learned all about how flowers grow and bloom and had a fantastic time digging a hole in the garden for the flowers and then planting the bulbs.

All about flowers
The kids learned how flowers, "Eat," by getting their food from sunlight, water, and minerals in the soil. Students learned how this process is called, "Photosynthesis." The children also learned how the colorful part of the flower is called the, "Petals," and the green parts at the base of a flower are referred to as, "Sepals."
Everyone learned that to have more flowers grow, they rely on pollinators such as bees. The pollen sticks to their bodies. When they go to visit another flower to gather more pollen, the pollen from the previous flower drops into the pistil of the new flower fertilizes the eggs inside the ovary, and seeds are made. The kiddos were also amazed to learn broccoli is technically a flower. It was such a fun day planting flower bulbs and learning all about flowers!
