Practicing Communication Skills With Sock Puppets
At the University School of Milwaukee Preschool & Lower School, the kids had a fantastic time utilizing and interacting with sock puppets to practice their communication skills. They worked on their, "I Can," statements and used sock puppets to practice conflict resolution through imaginary scenarios. Using sock puppets helped remove some of the anxiety over the discussion of issues and helped the children to feel comfortable being open and honest as they worked on communication.
Talking, "Through," the Sock Puppets
The kids had so much fun talking, "Through" the sock puppets and felt more comfortable stating thoughts and feelings via using sock puppets as their proxies for talking and sharing thoughts. You can do this with your class too with sock puppets, dolls, or anything else that children can use to practice expressing thoughts and communicating!
