Seashell Exploration Activity
At Hope Day School they had so much fun spending the Summer learning about the Ocean. One big element of the Ocean happens to be seashells--which the class had a bunch of! They explored the seashells for sensory fun and also matched them to images in a book of all the kinds of seashells found in the Ocean. If you have a bunch of seashells you can have your students explore them too and share interesting facts about seashells with them!
Neat seashell facts
Some interesting facts about seashells you can tell your students while they explore them are:
*Nine out of ten seashells are developed to open to the right.
*Animals known as mollusks often live in seashells--they are like a mobile home!
*Most mollusks only use one seashell for their entire life, with the exception of the hermit crab which will outgrow a seashell and move to a new one.
*Long ago people would actually use seashells as money
*There are generally two types of seashells: flat and cone.
