# Tangram Puzzles for Kids

These Tangram puzzles are great for kids and serve as a learning tool that can help build STEM skills.

They are a bit like building blocks and can teach kids about spatial relationships between objects. This assists children in learning geometric terms and developing their problem-solving abilities. Tangram puzzles have been shown to even assist youth in learning basic arithmetic and doing better on tests with it.

## What A Tangram Is

Trangrams were invented in China around 200 years ago. It is a two-dimensional puzzle focused on re-arrangement by cutting a square into seven pieces/seven total geometric shapes.

A tangram puzzle always contains the following:

• 2 right triangles that are larger
• 1 right triangle that is medium-sized
• 2 right triangles that are smaller
• 1 square that is smaller
• 1 parallelogram

## How to Use Tangrams

There are a number of ways to use and play with tangrams. One of the simplest ways is to allow children to create their own varied complex shapes. Do be aware, however, that tangrams are generally treated as puzzles. A player is usually shown a target shape/design in an outline with the, “Seams,” between the individual tans hidden/concealed. Then, a player works to recreate that displayed shape by using their seven pieces.

The following images below are puzzle cards. They are seamless and a good more complex option for older schoolchildren. There also are marked-out figures for younger children such as preschoolers too.
