After reading the story Ten Apples Up Top by Dr. Seuss we set out to create our own rendition. The integration of literacy into activities further extends the life of the story and in turn fosters creative thinking.
The STEM challenge was to encourage the children to try stacking as many apples (cheerios) as they can using the spaghetti and the play dough. Threading the cheerios onto the spaghetti is an excellent fine motor activity. The children arranged them to specific strands or just stick the cheerios in the play dough and there was so much counting going on.
