Transportation theme with homemade sails for a boat competition between the students
We were doing a transportation theme. Each day we tried to have a fun activity with a different mode of transportation. This day we chose boats. We cut a pool noodle up into smaller pieces. We used this because they float. We tried milk cartons the previous year but if they turned over they would sink. The kids designed their own flags with dabbers, markers, crayons or stickers and we attached them to a straw. When then poked the straw into the noodle to look like a sailboat. I had a tub that I filled with water and the children had to blow their boats to the end using a straw. This is a good activity to get their mouths ready for speech. We did relays two by two with random choosing. We took the winner of each heat and went to another round to determine an overall winner. We awarded the the winner with a trip to the treasure box. The kids loved it.
