behaviroral nudges in hand hygiene
The Provincial Health Office Ilocos Sur in collaboration with Ilocos Center for Health Development recently embarked on a Knowledge Management Journey on Behavioral Nudges for Hand Hygiene at the DOH Eastern Visayas CHD, with Biliran Province serving as the pilot site for the Hand Hygiene Playbook from March 4-6, 2026.
The visit was more than just a technical exchange—it was a chance to learn from real experiences and see how small, thoughtful behavioral cues can make a big difference in encouraging proper handwashing among students, health workers, and community members.
The Ilocos delegation, led by Regional Director Dr. Paula Paz Sydiongco and Health Promotion Unit Medical Officer Dr. Andrew Dave Lopez, paid a courtesy call to the DOH Eastern Visayas CHD and the Governor of Biliran. They then went on ocular visits to key implementation sites: Almeria Central School, Caibiran Rural Health Unit, and Kawayan Fish Port. Each stop offered valuable insights into how environmental design and simple nudges—like visible reminders and accessible facilities—can turn hand hygiene into a daily habit.
