FIve in a row Lentil
This week we are going to read the book Lentil by Robert McCliskey. This book is about a young boy who cannot whistle or sing. He eventually learns how to play the harmonica and ends up impressing the whole town. While doing this study we will learn about Ohio, where the story takes place, patriotism and its significance, learn about the sense of taste by doing a blindfolded taste test, and build our own homemade harmonicas. These will be made from large popsicle sticks, plastic stress and rubber bands. I will also teach them about individuality and how we each have our own special gifts and talents. I have a printable to color the flag of the United States of America and it’s symbolism. We will also be doing a charcoal drawing of Lentil since this is the medium Robert McCloskey chose to use to illustrate the book. I also will give them a handwriting paper for the letter L which I received from the website chronicles of Momia. This is a homeschool Co-op setting where we meet once a week for two hours.
