Scrap Wood Painting and Decorating Activity for Preschoolers
At Washington Street UMC Preschool in Alexandria, Virginia they did a fabulous scrap wood project over 3 phases.
The students did various steps throughout the week. The idea was to do a loose parts-focused project and friend of the school Miss Jean had an assortment of scrap wood she donated. Then, it was used for this delightful activity!
Three Phases With the Scrap Wood
To do the three phases with these pieces of scrap wood the students first examined all the pieces and thought about the best way to stack them upon each other. After considering that they stacked all the pieces into various towers and glued everything together. The next phase was working together to paint the pieces of wood all one color in their towers--some were white, gray, etc. The third and final phase was decorating the wood with stickers, paper, and any other things the students wanted to use to let their imaginations run wild! Many children transformed their scrap wood towers so that they looked like rocket ships, which was very clever.
