Handwashing Activity

At Kibworth Methodist Church in Leicester, United Kingdom, they did a fun handwashing activity!

The students learned about the importance of handwashing and how it helps get rid of germs by washing ballon, "Hands," which were gloves that had been filled up with air. These balloon hands had circles and dots put on them with washable markers that represented germs. The students then washed the balloon hands in a big tub of soapy water and scrubbed the hands with the soapy water thoroughly to wash away all the, "Germs." It took a great deal of rubbing to get rid of the germs, and it illustrated why watching our hands is so important for getting rid of nasty germs that could otherwise make us sick!

How Long We Wash Our Hands

After the students washed all the, "Germs," off of the balloon hands they learned that when they are washing their own hands it is best to sing a song like, "We are washing our hands," to the tune of the popular song, "Happy Birthday," at least twice to make sure they have washed their hands for a long enough period of time. It was a fun and educational day!
