Acorn Donut Holes Recipe for Kids

At A Sunshine Palace Day Care in Troy, New York, they celebrated a recent Friday by doing a fun and tasty activity! They took doughnut holes and had students follow the recipe to turn these doughnut holes into tasty, "Acorns," that were as fun to make as they were to eat! These perfectly fit with a Fall theme at your school and are a delicious treat as well.

Ingredients Needed to Make the, "Acorn," Doughnut Holes

  • Doughnut holes
  • Chocolate frosting (it can be sugar-free if needed)
  • Spatula
  • Pretzel sticks
  • Chocolate sprinkles (or other colors can be used if you want your acorns to more colorful instead of realistic)
  • A small container to hold the chocolate sprinkles
  • Plastic or paper plates

How to Make the, "Acorn," Doughnut Holes

First make sure some of the chocolate sprinkles have been poured into the small container

Have students take a doughnut hole and using the spatula cover one end of the doughnut hole in the chocolate frosting

Next, students dip the frosting-covered end of their doughnut hole into the sprinkles and move it around until the frosted part is covered in sprinkles

Now students take a pretzel stick, break it in half so it is not too long, and then insert it into the doughnut hole on the side with the sprinkles

After doing these steps the students have a doughnut hole that looks just like an acorn they can lay on their plate

Have students repeat steps 2 through 5 until they have enough, "Acorn," doughnut holes to snack on!
