How To Make A Lemon Volcano. Easy Science Activity for Preschoolers

Try this easy science activity for kids: make lemon volcanoes and watch the chemical reaction of citric acid and baking soda.

Materials:

  • Lemons baking Soda
  • Food coloring
  • Dawn Dish Soap
  • Plate, Tray or Bowl
  • Craft Sticks or plastic knifes
  • Lemon Juice from the piece of lemon

Chemical Reaction with Lemons

Engage:

Place have of the fruit in bowl or tray to catch the mess. Write a prediction on the lab page before you add of the materials.

Explore:

Take the knife or stick and poke holes in the fruit. This will help make sure there is enough juice involved for the experiment.
Place a few drops of liquid food coloring on the open fruit.
Put a few drops dish soap on the top of the lemon.
Sprinkle two tablespoons of baking soda on the open fruit.
Use the knife or craft stick one again to poke some holes.
Pour a little extra lemon juice on top to enhance the reaction.
