Phonics - CVC short "a"

Phonics - CVC short "a"

This class was focused on the short sound of the letter "a" and just like in the other class we used the Progressive Phonics system which teaches the alphabet SATPIN style and starts blending the letters early on. I consider it a very efficient accelerated reading program and I mainly use it in our afterschool program for kids who need to catch up or need extra help with their phonics at this level.

Our usual lesson starts off with a short and funny story that keeps the kids entertained and willing to read the story /text all the way to the end. We start a small conversation on the topic of the story them we go straight into worksheets. Usually, the worksheets focus on tracing practice, unscrambling words, finding beginning sounds, matching the words to the correct picture and here and there, and extra fun activity like finding the difference between 2 pictures, solving a maze, coloring, and so on.
