Classifying and Sorting Different Kinds of Insects and Bugs
At the Gardner School of Eagan, they sorted and classified different kinds of insects and bugs! The students were given fake plastic versions of various insects and bugs and provided with little cards to help them with sorting and matching them.
All about bugs!
The kiddos had a fantastic time learning all about creepy crawlies. They discussed how insects have a three-part body (head, thorax, and abdomen, three pairs of jointed legs, compound eyes, and one pair of antennae. They talked about how certain creatures are not insects, like spiders. Spiders are actually arachnids. Sorting the plastic bugs and placing them with their matching descriptors was great fun for the kids and they really loved figuring out which bugs were insets or other kinds of creatures. They asked if sometime in the future they could play with real insects!
