Construction Site - Sensory bin
Construction Site Sensory Bin Activity
A construction site sensory bin is a fun and engaging hands-on activity that encourages children to explore textures, develop fine motor skills, and engage in imaginative play. This activity is particularly beneficial for toddlers and preschoolers as it provides a multi-sensory experience while incorporating elements of construction-themed play.
Materials Needed:
Flour
Oil (vegetable or baby oil)
A large tray or sensory bin
Small construction trucks (bulldozers, dump trucks, excavators, etc.)
Toy construction cones or small rocks (optional)
Scoops, spoons, or small cups for digging
How to Set Up the Sensory Bin:
Prepare the Sensory Base: Start by mixing flour and oil in a large tray or sensory bin. The ratio can be about 8 cups of flour to 1 cup of oil, but you can adjust it to achieve a moldable, crumbly texture. The mixture should feel soft and slightly damp, similar to kinetic sand. This texture allows children to scoop, mold, and dig easily.
Add Construction Trucks: Once the base is ready, place small construction vehicles such as bulldozers, dump trucks, and excavators into the bin. These toys will help enhance imaginative play as children pretend to build, transport materials, and operate a mini construction site.
