Direction! jump jump

Hi. our recent English class, we played a very simple but highly engaging game that the children absolutely loved. When the teacher said, “jump, jump, jump” and then suddenly called out “right!”, the children had to quickly jump to the right side. If the teacher shouted “left,” “back,” or “front,” they immediately jumped in that direction as well. The rules of the game were very easy to understand, but because children naturally enjoy jumping and moving their bodies, the activity turned into a joyful game filled with energy, laughter, and excitement. It not only helped them release their energy but also encouraged them to listen carefully and follow directions in English.

To make the activity even more meaningful, our class also placed colorful direction arrows on the mat. By using these visual cues, the children could actually see where each direction was and then connect the word with the action. They were not just memorizing vocabulary from a book, but truly experiencing the meaning through their movements. When they heard “left,” they turned their bodies toward the left arrow, and when they heard “back,” they quickly hopped backward with big smiles. This hands-on method helped them remember the words more naturally, while also giving them confidence in using English in a playful way.

The best part of the lesson was that the children didn’t feel like they were studying. Instead, they were having fun together, laughing, and moving around while learning something new. By combining movement with language learning, we created an enjoyable classroom atmosphere where every child could actively participate. Simple activities like this remind us that learning English can be both effective and full of joy when approached in a lively, interactive way.
