Learning About and Drawing African Masks
At A Child's Garden preschool the students learned about African culture. They learned about how many African masks are inspired by and made to look like animals. The students then drew their own versions of African masks!
Materials needed for learning about and drawing African masks
To do this activity you need:
- Gathered information about Africa and its tradition of African masks
- Paper
- Crayons/Markers
How to learn about and draw African masks
To do this activity follow these steps:
- Discuss the rich history of Africa and the importance of masks in African culture.
- Tell the students they are going to draw their own Afican-styled mask themed for the African animal of their choosing--offering suggestions if they are not sure what to draw (gazelle, lion, elephant, and so forth).
- Have the students draw their own version of African masks.
- Have each student talk about why they drew the animal they did!
