Minibeast hunt using model minibeasts
This is an example of our topic minibeasts for low ability autistic students following a continuous provision approach. We set up a minibeast hunter tuff tray where the students had to use bug containers, binoculars, magnifying glasses and nets to "catch the bug". They also had key vocabulary to match the model minibeasts to photos of minibeasts. the children really enjoyed this activity picking up the models and exploring them with their hands. They also enjoyed naming the different minibeasts. To add a sensory aspect we added fake dirt for the children to find the minibeasts inside.
