Simple Fruit Play Sensory Activity
Sensory play is important for the development of little ones. One common issue, however, is that toddlers love to put everything in their mouths. BrightPath Kids had the clever idea to do a sensory play activity with fruit so that kids can both enjoy sensory play and safely ingest their, "Toys," while they have fun!
Materials needed for the simple fruit play sensory activity
It is recommended to have these items for this sensory play activity:
- A tub (or two) full of water
- An empty (cored) watermelon and/or an empty (cored) pineapple
- Sliced lemons
- Sliced oranges
- Blueberries
- Strawberries
- Bananas
- Any other fruit you like!
How to do the simple fruit play sensory activity
Follow these steps to do the sensory activity:
- Take your tubs full of water and lay them down.
- Put the assorted fruits in them.
- Work with your toddler to play with the fruits.
- Ask questions like, "Is the lemon slice more tart than the orange slice," or, "Why do some fruits float and others do not?"
- Encourage your toddler to scoop and dump with the cored fruit.
- Let your toddler enjoy eating the fruit and then clean-up when done!
