Tearing paper practice to make a picture

To work on fine motor skills my students have been tearing paper. I began with an explicit lesson showing them how to hold the paper and tear it. The first time we did this I gave students a strip of paper and students tore the paper (they chose colors) and glued it to an outline of a leafless tree. For this project I gave students a half sheet of paper. We have also done this with a pumpkin for our bulletin board. Students get practice tearing paper, but instead of glueing it to random paper they glued it to an image. I did cut these out for students, we will be working up to cutting out images. We are cutting strips and snipping at the beginning of the year
