UnPopular Opinion: Removing circle time for Kindergarten
As a kindergarten teacher, I have noticed that circle time can become a real problem as little bodies have a difficult time staying still and not colliding with other little bodies. Often times, circle time is less about learning and more about managing behaviors. As a result, I am experimenting with the idea of doing away with circle time each day to go over calendar and math concepts and instead teaching those concepts with hands on activity at their desk, dedicating more time to small group work and increasing brain breaks.
I think it is important to have shared reading and group reading but equally important is ensuring that the time used is being productive academically.
