10 Fun Pumpkin Facts and a Free Pumpkin Printable
Pumpkins are often associated with the Fall season and one way to celebrate Autumn is by teaching students these 10 fun facts about pumpkins. Then, after reviewing the facts the students can examine the four free printables and point-out what the artist did wrong in each picture!

- A pumpkin is fruit and not a vegetable.
- Pumpkins generally are orange but they also can be white, yellow, green, or even red!
- Pumpkins can be found growing on all continents except Antarctica.
- Almost every part of a pumpkin is edible from its seeds to its insides and skin with pumpkins prepared a variety of ways including baking, roasting, steaming, and boiling.
- The origin of the word, "Pumpkin," comes from the Greek word for a large melon, "Pepon.
- "Pumpkins are among the most popular crops grown in the United States.
- The oldest seeds of pumpkins as we now know them were found in Mexico around 7,000 B.C.
- Pumpkins can be used in both sweet and savory dishes, unlike some fruits which are only used as a dessert or as a part of meal. Because a pumpkin can be used both ways it might be in a soup, a juice, or part of a pie!
- Pumpkins are an extremely popular Halloween decoration, with ones that are carved often called, "Jack O' Lanterns," as they can then be illuminated from the inside.
- Pumpkins can be relatively small or grow incredibly big--the largest pumpkin ever grown weighed 2,624 pounds (a man in Belgium had it weighed in 2016 and was given the World record).
