Talking About the Recent and Upcoming Olympics
At Pilgrim Community Nursery School they discussed the recent Summer Olympics that were held in 2021 (they were delayed a year due to COVID-19) and how in 2022 there will already be the Winter Olympics! The class made crafts themed for the Olympic rings and torch.
What the rings and torch symbolize
Students learned the Olympic rings symbolize how athletes from the five competition continents (Antarctica doesn't have anyone to compete) come together and unite to play the Olympic games. As for the torch, the Olympic flame symbolizes the light of spirit, knowledge, and life. By passing the flame from one person to another in stages, the Torch Relay expresses the handing down of this symbolic fire from generation to generation. Students made their own representations of the rings and torch and loved learning all about these Olympic symbols.
