Growing and Harvesting Mushrooms
At The Learning Studio, they learned all about mushrooms and then grew and harvested some Chestnut mushrooms as part of a fun classroom activity!
Learning all about mushrooms
The children learned how mushrooms were a type of fungi that grows from spores. They were informed how if spores are planted and then properly misted and given enough sunlight (but not too much) then a mushroom will grow. With this knowledge, the class grew Chestnut mushrooms!
Harvesting the Chestnut mushrooms
After spending some weeks watching the chestnut mushroom grow, the class helped the teachers carefully harvest it by picking it from dirt it was planted in. The students then loved closely examining the Chestnut mushrooms! Some extra Chestnut mushrooms were put aside for anyone who wanted them for meals as they are edible and can be eaten raw or cooked into a delicious dish. It was so fun learning about, harvesting, and studying Chestnut mushrooms!
