Weather Report Game: A Fun and Interactive Weather Sorting Activity
This weather-themed sorting activity helps preschool and early elementary students develop their observation, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills through a fun and interactive classroom game!
Weather Sorting and Sentence Building
For this activity, I prepared two main components:
A large Weather Report Board with four boxes for weather-related symbols and one sentence box at the bottom.
Weather 4cast Cards, which are smaller versions of the weather board, showing sample weather symbols and a complete sentence (e.g., "It’s snowy.").
The goal of the activity is for students to look at the Weather 4cast card and recreate it on the big Weather Report board using the correct symbols and sentence.
How It Works:
First, the teacher shows a Weather 4cast card (e.g., “It’s stormy”) with four weather-related images, such as clouds, lightning, rain, and waves.
Students then take turns choosing and placing the correct weather symbols on the big board to match what they saw.
Finally, the sentence strip is added at the bottom: “It’s stormy.”
Each set focuses on a different weather condition. For example:
“It’s snowy.” includes snowflakes, clouds, a snowman, and a snowy tree.
“It’s sunny.” might include sunglasses, sunshine, hot weather, and the beach.
Learning Focus:
Vocabulary building (sunny, snowy, stormy, windy, etc.)
Visual matching and memory skills
Sentence recognition
Fine motor development (when placing the pieces)
This is a great interactive way to teach weather concepts while encouraging group participation and communication. Kids love getting involved in building the weather report like real meteorologists!
