Making Butter by Hand in a Mason Jar
At King's Kids Preschool in Newark, California, they learned how to make butter by hand in a mason jar. It was a fun activity and the endless energy the children had resulted in making the butter being relatively easy considering all the jar-shaking they needed to do!
Materials needed for this activity
To make your own butter in a mason jar you will need the following:
*Mason jar
*Heavy cream
*Salt
How to do this activity
To make your own butter by hand in a mason jar you can follow these steps:
1. Fill your mason jar halfway with heavy cream and close the jar up.
2. Shake the jar thoroughly for 6-8 minutes. After shaking for a while it should make thumping sounds and slosh around.
3.It should look like thick buttermilk--open the jar and sprinkle in some salt.
4.Shake it another minute to mix in the salt well.
5.Scoop out the completed butter and enjoy eating it on a snack!
