Pumpkin Exploration
Hello Teachers, my name is Connie and I am a preschool/preK teacher. Our friends have shown lots of interest in learning about pumpkins after some friends have visited the pumpkin patch. We decided to incorporate identifying their name and scissor cutting with this activity. The children first began by cutting the pumpkin out in different sections for each letter in their name. They then had to glue their name pieces in the order they thought it corresponded after we scrambled them up a bit. This helped children recognize the letter sequence in their name and practice following lines while cutting. After this activity we followed up by deep diving more into pumpkins. Our friends have interacted with pumpkin spice playdough, still life drawings of pumpkins, estimating pumpkin sizes, and learning about the life cycle of pumpkins. Starting next week we will cut the pumpkin to see what’s inside!
