Pumpkin Jack book and life cycle experiment
We read the book Pumpkin Jack by Will Hubbell to our Pre-K class the week before Halloween and then started our own pumpkin experiment. We carved a bat shape into the pumpkin leaving all of the seeds and filling. We put the pumpkin into a large plastic cheese ball container with potting soil in the bottom. We put on the lid and have not taken it off. We have watched the changes over the past few months and will continue throughout the rest of the school year, in hopes that seeds will sprout and we can send each child home with a pumpkin plant. I have posted a picture of the life cycle of a pumpkin beside the container so my students can be reminded of the life cycle as we watch the pumpkin decompose. The first photo was taken after the first week. The second photo was taken after Thanksgiving break and the the third picture was taken after Christmas break.
