Life cycle of a pumpkin
We did an experiment last fall and placed a small pumpkin in a container. The seedlings found a pumpkin that would fit inside our container. We filled it with some soil, added the pumpkin, and put the cover on tightly. We brought it into our classroom and throughout the months we watched the pumpkin change and decompose. We observed the changes in color and shape. As the pumpkin decomposed; we were able to see inside the pumpkin and see that there were many seeds inside of it. In the spring we observed the seeds begin to sprout new plants. When the sprouts started getting bigger; we transferred it to a raised garden bed indoors. When the weather was warm enough and there was no more risk of frost; we transferred the plants to the outdoor garden. We will be harvesting the pumpkins in the next couple of weeks.
