Taking care of their own needs with a "Snot Spot"
This is a great way for toddlers through grade school to learn to take care of their own runny noses.
All you need is:
1. a mirror - especially for little ones - low enough for them to see themselves
2. a box of tissues where they can reach it, but not on ground level as that would encourage all the crawlers and young toddlers to 'explore' the tissues and
3. a trash can with a swinging lid marked "Snot Spot."
I have children 18 months to 36 months in my classroom and find that one of the life skills this age demands is being able to wipe their own noses! Like many ideas that teachers have come up with, this was out of sheer need! I felt like wiping noses was all I ever got accomplished! Having a special spot where they can practice this skill encourages independence and what toddler doesn't love to hear "Yay! You did it yourself! Way to go!"
