Arctic animals series, polar bear craft and activity
This activity was used for pre-schoolers. As part of a series on artic animals we made tube polar bears and went fishing in the 'ice' (pieces of sheet polystyrene) for sparkly fish. the tubes were painted white in advance and the children then wrapped white wool around them, they used different methods to try to wrap the wool around. the faces and paws were pre-cut so were glued together and added to the tube. The children enjoyed finding the fish and counting how many red and green fish there were. Some were then able to count how many they had altogether. They discovered in playing that the 'ice' became 'snow' when broken up and bagan to make snow. One of the children then discovered that the tools from another station could be used to cut up the ice thus extending their play.
