Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett: The Black Female Doctor Who Developed the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine
The nursing office decorated its door by adding pictures of Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett and information about her education and COVID-19 for Black and Women's History Months. She grew up in North Carolina, with a large family made up of step and foster siblings. She attended the University of Maryland for her undergraduate degree. She was a Meyerhoff scholar, which is a mentorship program for women and minorities studying science. Dr. Corbett graduated from the University of North Carolina in 2014 with a PhD in Allergy and Immunology. She became the lead scientist for the team researching the Coronavirus at the National Institute of Health. Eventually she partnered with Moderna, to develop the first COVID-19 Vaccine.
