Education About Money with a Dramatic Play Preschool Cafe
At Virginia Preschool the kids had a fantastic time engaging in some dramatic play where they ran a cafe! They pretended to bake and serve cupcakes, biscuits, and all other sorts of delicious treats. They also used a variety of pretend money to learn about how it is used to pay for items as well as how to count money and make change.
Fun at the Cafe
The children had a great deal of fun doing their preschool cafe. They made imaginary drinks and food. To learn about money, they practiced with pretend coins and bills to pay for food. They learned how to make change and took into account discounts for if, "Customers," bought a special meal deal that impacted the price of their food.
The kids had a great time counting and making sure they added-up and subtracted all the money correctly. You can incorporate learning about money into any kind of dramatic play with a business in your school too. It can be a cafe, clothing store, grocery store, or whatever items you have for the needed dramatic play!
