Learning About Wood and Playing With Hammers
At Westminster Preschool, they learned about how wood comes from trees and played with toy hammers to hammer toy nails! It was great fun and extremely educational as they learned about wood, trees, and enjoyed hammering.
Fun facts about trees and wood
Here are some facts about trees and their wood you can tell students about while they do wood-related activities:
*Wood--in the form of charcoal--was the first-ever drawing material used by ancient humans.
*The World's largest trees are giant sequoias found in California.
*The World's smallest tree is the Dwarf Willow; it only grows a few inches up to people's ankles.
*Trees are the longest living organisms on Earth--they don't die of old age, just outside circumstances like illness or lack of nutrients.
*In a single day a large tree is capable of pulling 100 gallons of water out of the ground.
*Dendrochronology is the dating and study of annual rings in trees.
