Practicing Sorting Recycling and Garbage Along with Picking it Up
At Toddler's Academy, they learned all about how to properly sort recycling and garbage and practiced picking it up on the playground!
Picking-up debris
The teachers took a variety of items and spread them around the playground as if they were garbage (nothing was actually dirty, however). They spread paper bags, bottles, plastic bags, and other food containers. The children then went outside and got to pick everything up--it was a good way to model how we should not throw items on the ground (littering is bad, and if we see some garbage and can safely pick it up, we should!
Sorting recycling versus garbage
The kiddos learned how some things can go in recycling but some need to be disposed of. Soda cans or bottles can be recycled, as can paper bags. Leftover food is garbage, however. Plastic bags also need to be thrown away or taken to stores that sometimes have a special bin for plastic bags. It was very informative learning what can and cannot be recycled!
