Rock Painting Activity for Young Children
At Sharon Elementary Art, the children had a fantastic time finding rocks out in nature and then painting them all kinds of beautiful and impressive colors for their little rock pathway!
The kids made all kinds of neat designs and patterns on the rocks and it was a great way to express their creativity!
Materials needed for the rock painting activity
To do this activity you will need:
*Rocks (either found in nature or from a craft store)
*Paint (tempera or acrylic works well)
*Paint brushes
How to do the rock painting activity
Follow these steps to do the rock painting activity:
1. If finding the rocks in nature, have everyone go outside and look for rocks that are big (but not too big) and smooth enough they would be easy to paint. If buying rocks from a craft store, skip this step.
2. Give the children an assortment of rocks to pick from and have them pick a few rocks to paint.
3. Have the children paint the rocks. You can give directives such as making one rock have a pattern, or using a certain color, or let the kids paint things however they want!
4. Once the rocks are painted let the paint dry and then display them in a fun manner such as making a path or any other cool way you would like to show them off!
