STEM activity - KAPLA block bridges
In this activity the preschoolers had to think of ways to build a bridge stretching from one tabletop to the other without additional support underneath. In addition, the bridge had to be strong enough to hold a toy car put in the midst of the bridge. We used Kapla blocks and the children first built structures on the tables. We then worked with tables and chairs and tried different constructions, without adding the cars yet. We talked about what makes the bridges collapse and how to balance the weight of the blocks.
Finally, the children had created sturdy bridges, and we were able to add the cars.
