10 Simple Spider Crafts for Preschoolers

Spiders are great fun to talk about and do crafts related to during Halloween season! At Brighten Academy Preschool in Clovis, California they made a number of great spider-crafts that your class can create too!

Halloween worksheets

1. Watercolor Hand-Print Spider-Web

For this activity the materials needed are:

Watercolor paint (especially black)

White Crayon

White sheet of paper

Googly Eyes

Glue

Make the spider web using a white crayon on white construction paper.

Once you have the spider web drawn, the kids can paint all over the paper with watercolors. The effect is so cool!

Next, they cover their hands in the black paint and press their hands down together on the sheet--this makes their spider! Lastly, students glue the googly eyes on the spider so that it has eyes.

2. and 3. Crayon Resist Spider Web

Make a simple crayon resist spider web.

Materials

White crayon

White sheet of paper

Water Colors (black)

Make the spider web using a white crayon on white construction paper.

Once you have the spider web drawn, the kids can paint all over the paper with watercolors. The effect is so cool!

4. Water-Spout Story

As this craft shows, there are version of it with the watercolor spider-webs and an additional activity where students write about what happened when their own spider, "Went up the water spout," and then draw their story!

5. Paper Plate Spiders

This craft has students making their own impressive spiders out of a paper plates!

To do this activity students need the following materials:

Paint (watercolor, Tempera, or any other kind)

Pipe Cleaners

Googly Eyes

Glue

To do the activity students first paint their paper plate whatever color they would like their spider to be.

Then, once the paint has dried they need to glue eight pipe cleaners (the legs) and eight googly eyes upon their spider--if they want it to be scientifically accurate.

Should students want to be creative an make a silly-looking spider they can use however many pipe cleaners and googly eyes as they want!

6. Paper Craft Spiders

These spiders are made out of black and white construction paper then glued together upon purple construction paper. To create them students just need the papers, scissors to cut the paper, and glue.

7. Sparkly Spider-Webs

For this craft you give your preschoolers a bottle of regular white glue used at school and have them trace their own lines around their sheet. After they have added enough glue they can sprinkle an assortment of glitter on their sheet. Then they shake the excess glitter off and the project is complete!

8. and 9. Spider Hand-Print Crafts and Folded-Paper Leg Spiders

These two pictures show two version of a spider hand-print craft (on purple and orange construction paper) which is a bit like the watercolor hand-print spider-web except it simply is focused on the aspect of the craft where students use their hands to make a spider!

The other craft that is also in the picture with the hand-print spiders on the purpler paper is a folded-paper leg spider. Students make this one much like the paper craft spider discussed in project #6 but instead of gluing it onto a paper they take the body and glue-on legs that they make look very springy by folding and unfolding strips of black construction paper.

10. My Spiders

To do this craft students use a spider-web template (which we have provided below) and paint a spider upon it before gluing-on googly eyes.
