Where vegetables grow

Students will listen to the teacher read the book "Tops and Bottoms" by Janet Stevens. Students will use the Where Does it Grow mat from teachersmag. The teacher will put the mat inside of a dry erase sleeve. The teacher will call out a vegetable from the story. Students will draw on the mat to show where the vegetable grows - either above the ground or below the ground. After all the vegetables from the story have been drawn, the teacher can challenge the students by calling out additional fruits and vegetables. Students can discuss where they think they grow - are they roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits or seeds?
