Crayon theme to learn names
In my 3 year old children’s classroom in the beginning of the year each child is a different colored crayon. This same color is used to label their cubbies, chairs, carpet circles and job chart job. When they come back in January everyone is a white crayon, because they no longer need the added support of color to recognize their name. Not only is this effective in learning their own names but I have found it to be a great way for the children to learn to recognize their classmates names as well. Once we have name recognition, we begin to work on the individual letters that make up their name and identifying them and then writing their name. Everyone proceeds at their own pace and feels successful.
