Teaching the names of clothes to second graders
Children like learning the names of clothes and I like using some tools to make the learning process easier. That is the reason why I have supplied my learners with black and white printed pictures. They had to use their scissors and glue sticks to make a clothing line full of clothes. After they have finished with the cutting and gluing part they had to colour the pictures as I mentioned them: 'Colour the dress pink. Colour the shoes brown. Colour the T-shirt red', etc. When they have finished the colouring we practised the names of the clothes again. That task is very good to make the pupils interested and motivated. They like activities. They have enjoyed to cut, glue and colour. Their memory skills and shared attention were developed by making this exercise. After that we had been able to say complete sentences with the new words: 'I'm wearing a red T-shirt, blue trousers and pink shoes.' etc.
