Experimenting with Ice, Rock Salt, and Dye!
With it currently being so hot outside, they did a fun ice-themed activity to cool down at Temple Beth Israel Preschool! Large blocks of ice were put in a big tub and children experimented by putting rock salt on the ice and watching it melt, as well as adding colorful food dye and seeing how it took the blocks of ice from clear to full of color!
Materials needed for this activity
To engage in this activity you will need the following:
*A large tub
*Big blocks of ice
*Rock salt
*Food dye
How to do this activity
To do this activity follow these steps:
1. Put your big blocks of ice in your large tub.
2. Have children throw pieces of rock salt on the ice and watch how it melts.
3. Have the students put drops of food dye on the ice and watch how the color spreads. Encourage them to add multiple colors and see what happens.
4. Talk about how the salt makes the ice melt and the food dye spread in the water!
