Free Printable Everyday Objects Shape-Matching Activity
These free printables are perfect for teaching young children about shapes via a matching activity.
There are four shapes total (square, circle, rectangle, triangle) with three cards each (resulting in 12 cards total) that can be printed, cut into individual cards, and then laminated to do the activity.
How the Shape-Matching Activity Works
With all the cards printed and laminated students can study each card and see how at the center there is a solid geometric shape. After they note what shape it is (a square, circle, rectangle, or triangle) they then examine the images of everyday objects about the shape. In each picture, there are a varying number of everyday objects that match the geometric shapes (like a pizza slice for a triangle or basketball for a circle). Students need to attach clothespins to each matching image on a card and once they have one card correctly done they can remove the clothespins and do the next card!
This activity helps build familiarity with how everyday objects are designed to be like geometric shapes and it is fun to watch students realize what shape matches what everyday item.
