Learning About and Making Art Inspired by Alma Thomas
They were celebrating Black History Month in art class at Rollins Place Elementary School! One of the famous black artists the class talked about was Alma Thomas. Thomas was best known for her signature style of overlaid planes of colorful, thumb-sized rectangles that combined to create beautiful images. She was born in 1891 and lived until 1978, creating amazing art. The kids loved learning about her and then making art in a style like hers as well.
Beautiful and creative art
Alma Thomas's style inspired the kiddos to make their own gorgeous artwork that was similar in its inspiration of using shapes to create other images. The class had lots of fun creating artwork out of paint, construction paper, and other materials as can be seen below:
The kids were so talented!
