Printable Family Budget Card Sorting Game for Kids
Children often want to spend all their money on things that excite and entertain them. However, not all our money can be spent on toys, candy, or fun things. This is because we need to be able to budget. This card game will help children to see how they need to take into account cards that represent income (the family budget) and cards that represent expenses (what the money is spent on) to help them understand how money needs to be wisely used.
The below cards represent the income that goes into the family budget and things that it gets spent on!
Income and expense cards
Mom's salary
Dad's salary
Grandparent's retirement benefits
Government benefits and scholarships
***
Housing
Childcare
Transportation and car repairs
Toys and books
Doctors and medicine
Telephone and internet
Household goods and cleaning supplies
Food and groceries
Vacation expenses
Shoes and clothes
How to use the cards
Children can sort the cards into a pile of ones that represent income and ones that represent expenses. Then, the kids can see how even if they like toys and books, that is only one expense of many to take into account depending on how much income they may have. This imparts an important lesson about budgeting!
